After a few year… Finally I have chance to go back to Genting… The last time I went to Genting was a few years back. That time I remember I went there with a few Hostel friends in Chong Hwa, to watch Astro Talent Quest, that time the guests was F.I.R and JJ Lin… Wow, both my favorite artist! ^_^
Part 1: Performing
And this time, even a greater trip and greatest experience even in Genting. Before going there, there was once I went Mamak with the whole bunch of UCSI gang, Juan, Adil and students… Then suddenly Juan asked me… "Do you wanna play in the Genting Jazz Festival?"… Then I think: "What? What was that?"… Then he turned back and talk with others… I haven’t replied… And I don’t know when is it and where is it… And I thought that was just, I don’t know, how to say, find me to play? Really? Jazz? There are too many people too good! And I’m just a Jazz and electric guitar beginner… Later, I found that the Genting Jazz Festival was a huge show, bands from all over the world… Then I think "What? Juan ask me to play this? How?"… Oh, then later on I get to know that actually we were asked to play before the show starts around the place there… After confirming that I’m really going to play… I was like… Actually I’m really happy, because I was selected! But then, when I saw the others are David the greatest guitarist in UCSI and he was my partner, Terrence and Nelesh… I was thinking, die la, this is a serious thing! Why me?? Except me, the other three are great students of all, everyone would say that! The best Jazz Pianist, Terrence! The best Saxophonist, Nel! And the best Guitarist, David! And what am I?? Just a little kid, strumming chords playing Ah Niu’s ‘Lang Hua Yi Duo Duo’ and ‘Dui Mian De Nv Hai Kan Guo Lai’. I was so stress… Trying very hard to practise with David when we are free after school… Even when I’m practising with him, I’ve already feel very stress and ‘Zi Bei’ lo… Get in to the real show, Friday 8/6/2007… We were late, only manage to play two sets around there. That day was just Ok Ok… But when comes to 9/6/2007, We have to play from 1p.m. to 7p.m. Still, we were late… Feel so bad… When comes to playing… Oh my god… What the FxxK I’m doing? Out of tune, timming out… Improvise??? What the hell was the sound? Like one year old kid banging on the piano, that even sounds nicer that me!! One set worse that one set… I nearly screwed up my partner, David all the time!! When comes to Mr. Adil playing with us… Only David can match with him, because they are PROFESSIONAL… And me, this little kid here, can even do the chords properly! David back me up then! And I don’t know what to do that time! Just pretending to fill in here and there, making the face like no problem… But in my heart, and in my mind,… Shit, I wanna ask myself to shup up!! But I can’t!! That’s not the way! I have to keep cool and stay till the last second! No matter how!! That time I was totally lost, I wanna cover my face immediately that time, and fine a little hole, and hide inside there! T_T why am I so bad?? Actually really sorry to David, I’ve already screwed him up actually… And I don’t know what to say to him, and what to do… And I think he don’t like me already lor… I mean being partner la! Not friends la… He’s really a great guy and nice guy! I know, but when playing guitar, he is really serious and cool! Totally different from when he crap with us… Actually that day I feel very down that day… That’s why I’m quite before watching the show, and because of tired as well… This was a great experience… But I feel wasted, and why don’t I practise more and know more about Jazz?? I realize that I’m really not a good guitarist… Yes, I will practise more from now on,… But I don’t know how much I can do… This is the thing I’ve learned… I hope I won’t lost chance in the future to play this kind of things because of this, I’ve totally screwed myself up… Everyone know I can’t play… No one will hire me to play guitar for them next time~! So sorry, everybody…
Part 2: Jazz Festival
End of the story of unhappy things!! Beside performing, I feel very cool and nice being there!! This is the very 1st time I’ve been to Jazz Performance! Wow, the environment was… Terrific! Two days, I’ve already missed the few minutes when the show starts… Malaysian bands always the 1st one to start the show! 1st day, James Boyle our lecture and his band called Raged Tigers. 2nd day, The Funk Mob. They are doing very cool! James Boyle’s band’s bassist was very great! I like! And The Funk Mob, all my friends say they are great before that! They love the basist, Fly, and the Drummer, John Thomas a lot! Ya, then I saw them play… Really good! But my friends said that they can do even more than that! I haven’t had that chance to see them play very good! And our new guitar lecturer, Mr. ‘Abu Wan’? Also played in that band… He’s… Ok Ok la… Hehe… And the band I like that most was at 1st day, the Cape Jazz All Star, from Cape Town South Africa! Everyone’s skill and technique is the most balance and great one! The guitarist impressed me the most! (I’m guitarist ma!) ^_^ And the Saxophonist improvise very nice! The pianist, of course great! Love them the most! And I’ve missed a few songs of the Shanghai’s Band, wasted!!! Although they not to say very very great, but they are creative and great in stage performance! And all they do were Chinese songs! We are chinese, most see! Missed a few songs because I’m hungry for didn’t eat and drink for the whole day! Too rush that day! Went to school choir, recital, then have to rush up, even we still can late! But luckily I still manage to listen to their few songs at the end! They are cool! Then the Carribean one, pianist very good!! The 1st day, when come to the last band we started to dance around… Very high… 2nd day, as we expected, every one will sleep and no energy because we play until too late and didn’t really sleep… I’ve also sleep a while wake a while at the beginning of the show… But, surprisingly, after 2, 3 bands finished playing… We all starting to awake, getting crazy minutes to minutes… It came to the peak when the last band, Cubanismo from Cuba starts… We all dancing like crazy at the back, make a circle turning, even play ‘Thoo Thoo Train’ run around the whole hall… We were mad… And 99% are UCSI music students… Miss Sara our lecturer were there playing and dancing with us too! So fun… Until 2:30 a.m., the show still haven’t finished yet, but we all already out of energy! Have to go back already! 1st time been to Jazz Performance, very very nice!! Hope I have more and more chance and money, of course, to watch this kind of show in the future!
Part 3: Crap
The unforgettable moment were the 1st night, when we finished the show around 2 o’clock, we settle all our things… Then we went to Coffee Bean to drink and Crap… The Crapping King, David Lu… Damn, bring us laughing like mad :-D… And he bought a cheese cake, whole cheese cake and share with us, very kind guy… But the cake was frozen! And we all eat slowly and slowly… Suddenly, Stephen eat a big peace of cake and put in his mouth… His face was funny and it was too cold! We all starting to laugh like mad… And every one have to tried, at 1st was David himself, make us laugh like crazy, then me, wow, it was really cold in the mouth, the Nickson… All were forced to eat… And then from that day on, everyone got scared of cheese cake! Cheese Cake fobia… Haha… 2nd day morning we still the same crapping around at "Lou Yao Gei" eat "Dim Sum" for breakfast! We don’t have much time, 1 o’clock have to play… Just eat, then walk, take a few pictures… The 2nd night, we can’t manage to drink and crap around anymore… Too tired… Then we all back at morning 10/6/2007… I followed David’s car down and the he spend me his cousin sister "Wan Jun" and his one other friend eat sushi! What a kind guy!
This is really a great and unforgetable trip… Two days we’ve been having fun and happy… Now, we are back to the real world, things are coming back, stress are coming back… We have to get back to work~! T_T Hope we have more chance to go to more shows and trips…… Looking forward… Looking forward…… While working and waiting…. Looking forward….
